Jesus Christ Above All!
Philippians 2:9
37th Biennial Convention
Albuquerque, New Mexico

News Tidbits from Bonnie:

  • Opening worship service, with over 3,000 attendees, was led by the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison.  The worship service prepared our hearts and minds for the work and events to follow.  The offering, $45,123.55, was designated as a contribution to the mission goal of the LWML.  Praise the Lord!
  • During our Caucus, we recognized Arlene Laugenschlager for 75 years of ministry in the LWML.  She was a member of the Initial Organizing Meeting in 1943 in Chicago and came to Albuquerque to celebrate.  She has been very active in LWML during these 75 years!
  • Friday morning convention opened with the procession of banners.  It was my privilege to walk in with our four YWRs – Crystal Aguilar, Mycah Viken, Bree Joiner, and Grace Griffith.  These young women assisted in many activities throughout the convention and attended all the convention sessions.  They are excited to use their talents in encouraging more young women to become involved in the LWML ministry.  We were blessed with two Bible studies by Ida Mall, LWML President, 1991-1995.  She encouraged us to stay in the Word and become involved in the mission field.  Our mission field can begin within our community and extend from there. She gave us some helpful ideas that I will share with you later.  Our Friday offering, $49,105.84, was designated for the advancement of the LWML Endowment Fund.
  • I was also blessed to attend the Heart to Heart Sisters pinning ceremony.   It was exciting to see the love of the Lord in these women and their enthusiasm for encouraging more women of different cultures to become in the LWML ministry.  Priscilla Daryaie was pinned as a Heart to Heart Sister and Angelina Jauregui was pinned as a Heart to Heart District Leader!  They are both "on fire" for moving this ministry to the next level!  Congratulations to Angelina as she is also our new LWML Vice President of Gospel Outreach!
  • Voting on the mission grants was most definitely the most difficult part of the Convention.  There is so much need in the world – for food, medical care, clothing, shelter and jobs.  It's a difficult decision to decide how to vote because I want to help all of the grants!  The third convention offering, $30,904.81, was designated to serve people on the US/Mexico border with Concordia Lutheran Church, Chula Vista, Ca.
  • The Mission Walk was moved indoors due to the excessive heat!  1,131 walkers raised $12,500.78 for missions!  Praise the Lord!
  • Our entertainment on Friday night was Fiesta Mariachi with Mariachi San Pablo!  While I've heard Mariachi groups before, I have never heard them sing praise music!  While spreading God's love through their music, they also motivated Lutheran women and men to get up, clap and dance!  What an inspiring evening.
  • The Diamond Dazzle celebration was a secret until the last minute!  It started with a parade of District Presidents, Past District Presidents, YWRs and our District Counselor!  We were told to enter the hall with singing, dancing and get crazy!  We did not disappoint them!  Participants were prepared with noise makers, sparkling rings and lots of bling!  The opening was so much fun, but the entertainment was fabulous!  It's hard to accurately describe the entertainment, so I strongly urge you to go on the LWML website and watch the video streaming of this and the rest of the convention.  It was a history of LWML and events during each decade with solos from Rebecca Smith.  Words alone can't describe the quality and message of this entertainment so watch it for yourself! You will be moved to tears during some of the decades so prepare yourself with tissue!

It was such a blessing for me to attend this convention as your delegate.  You'll hear more at the September Board of Director's meeting but feel free to ask me any questions you may have.  I'm here to serve and love to hear from you!  Thank you for your prayers and support!
